Nell Walker Warner


Nell Walker Warner, born in 1891, studied at the Los Angeles School of Art and Design. She was an active member of the southern California art community, where she studied with Paul Lauritz and Nicolai Fechin, and curated the Tuesday Afternoon Club in Los Angeles. In 1950 she moved to Carmel, where she died in 1970. She is best remembered for her floral still lifes, and New England harbor scenes. Member: Glendale AA; Laguna Beach AA; Artland Club; Academy of Western Painters (LA); Pasadena Society of Artists; SWA; Carmel AA. Exhibited : Southern Calif. Fair, 1925 (1st prize); Calif. Eisteddfod, 1925 (four gold and silver medals); Tuesday Afternoon Club (Glendal), 1925; Calif. Art Club, 1925-38; West Coast Arts, 1927; Calif. WC Society, 1927-1932; Wilshire Gallery (LA), 1928; Calif. State Fair, 1929 (3rd prize), 1931 (1st prize); Santa Cruz Art League, 1930 (prize); Palos Verdes Public Library, 1931; Women Painters of the West (LA), 1929-48; Foothill Artists (La Canada), 1936; Desert Sun Gallery (Palm Springs), 1937 (solo); City Hall (LA), 1937; Chamber of Commerce (Santa Paula), 1937; GGIE, 1940; Society for Sanity in Art, CPLH, 1945; Artists Guild of America (Carmel), 1955, 1960, 1963 (solos).
