Willem Koekkoek - "Rembrandt's Studio Amsterdam"![]() Painting, Oil on Canvas, 22" x 34". illem Koekkoek was born in Amsterdam, where he lived and worked for the greater part of his life. He died there in 1895. He was the son of Hermanus Koekkoek, the well known marine painter and, with his brother, Johannes Hermann Barend Koekkoek, he received lessons and encouragement from his father. The Koekkoek family was highly regarded as an artistic dynasty in Amsterdam, spanning three generations. Willem Koekkoek originally worked as an architect and had tremendous success.
