LAURIE KERSEY BIOGRAPHY
Oil painter Laurie Kersey's work includes plein air and studio landscapes, still lifes, and figures. Her strong sense of design and sensitive handling of light and shadow set her apart from many of her contemporaries. Subjects include the dramatic coastline and quiet countryside of California; elegant, traditional florals; figures in quiet moments; and horses in their natural setting.
Laurie received her early art education from the Chatauqua Institution in Chatauqua, NY, and the Art Institute of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, PA. After a fifteen-year career in commercial art, as an Art Director and Illustrator on the East Coast, she relocated to San Francisco and studied painting at the Academy of Art University. She has since taught in the Fine Art Department at the Academy, as well as conducting private workshops.
Recent Events include Sonoma Plein Air Painting Festival, San Luis Obispo Plein Air Painting Festival, Carmel Art Festival (Honorable Mention), Telluride Plein Air Painting Festival, Greenhouse Gallery Salon International (Honorable Mention), and the OPA Western Regional Exhibition.
Laurie is a member of the Oil Painters of America, California Art Club, and Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters. She has been covered in Plein Air Magazine, Southwest Art Magazine, American Artist Magazine, USArt Magazine, and has been a first place winner in the Artist's Magazine's Annual Competition.
